Proposed relocation of the Tamaki Model Aircraft Club's airstrip

The Tamaki Model Aircraft Club is located at the Point England Reserve and is proposing to move its airstrip and flying area to a new location on the reserve (to the north-east), from its current location in the centre of the reserve.

The proposal also requires a total of 14 new car parks to be located on the reserve in close proximity to the airfield. This means the access track to the airfield will be increased by approximately 500 metres.

It is anticipated that the proposed changes will:

• reduce the noise effects from the club's flying activities on nearby neighbours

• allow larger aircrafts to fly at the field without making too much noise (larger models use larger propellers, spinning at lower speeds, so generally make less noise compared to smaller models)

• make flying the model aircrafts easier and safer, especially during take-offs and landings

• not infringe the no-flying zones as the relocated airstrip will create a logical circuit pattern

• allow club members to keep their equipment close to the airstrip with the increase in car parks

• reduce to need to park elsewhere on neighbouring streets and reduce concerns about security of unattended vehicles.
